Good morning friends,
January has run away with itself, full of good cheer and seeds sown. I hope the first weeks of 2026 are treating you well too. Today, I'm delighted to share this fortnightly 5 Bullet Friday with 5 social tips, tit-bits, treats and talking points, all of which I've come across or re-discovered over the past 2 weeks! Please enjoy!
1. What I'm exploring: Farmkind's Compassion Calculator - Why go vegan when for £15/month you can have as much impact by just donating? At least that's what Farmkind's calculator promises. There's a lot I could potentially say on this. But I won't. Give it a go and let me know what you think: are you sold?
2. What I'm reading: The Ultra Rich against The Rest - I try not to re-share George Monbiot every fortnight, but it's hard not to when his writing is so prescient. This lucid piece is such an eye-opener! Read it to understand the state of the plutocratic world we're living in. What to do, what to do?
3. What I'm sharing: Why your boiled egg might just be the UK's biggest National Security threat - This dry PDF is the Government's latest National Security Assessment. They tried not to publish it but were forced to by a Freedom of Information request. Basically, it gravely warns that global biodiversity collapse poses extreme security concerns for the country. While it doesn't quite say that vegan diets are the solution, it could as well. Consider these two quotes: "The UK does not have enough land to feed its population and rear livestock: a wholesale change in consumer diets would be required" and "The UK relies on imports for a proportion of both food and fertiliser and cannot currently produce enough food to feed its population based on current diets."
4. What I'm writing: Living with 13 people - I realise that many don't know that I house-share with 13 people. It often raises eyebrows, but is in fact the most marvellous of living arrangements. I've reflected on the wonderful house that is Can Collet in a recent blog. Here are my sentimental reflections.
5. And a final call for... Febrero sin teléfono - One last reminder that Phone Free February launches in just a couple of days. Fear you're scrolling too much? Give yourself the gift of a month away from your phone. You can still sign up and share the campaign aquí.
