Good afternoon planetary protagonists!
I write this as I return from 10 days exploring the wonders of Morocco together with my even more wonderful friend, Jude. After a pit-stop in Malaga to catch up with the acclaimed Stephan Hofkes, I’m back in Barcelona and delighted to share with you my selection of 5 social tips, treats and talking points, all of which I’ve come across or re-discovered over the past two weeks. Please enjoy and exuse the Saturday arrival!
1. What I’m writing: The Best Discounted Software for Non-Profits, Charities and CICs – I’m a bit of an aficionado when it comes to leveraging tech to help run my various projects. Brilliantly, for non-profits, much of this tech comes free or discounted. I’m pleased to share a compilation of my personal favourites. I’d love to expand on this list, so please feel free to get in touch if you have one to add!
2. Quote I’m pondering: “Focus on meeting your most basic needs, but in the most beautiful way possible.” – Henry Shukman (or Jude/Jacob) – I can’t remember!
3. What I’ve loved doing: Writing a Brand Obituary for strategic thinking – As part of the incredibly important and thought-provoking Abundance Collective of which I’m fortunate to be a part, we recently engaged in a a co-sensing exercise to help develop the Collective’s long-term strategy by writing an organisational brand obituary for 50 years time. I found the activity both rewardingly creative and surprisingly practical in terms of reifying key activities and milestones. A novel strategy method I’ll be re-using!
4. What I’m smiling at: The horror of shared docs – This little piece in The Economist is a smirk-inducing and all-too-relatable ode to the trauma shared docs can bring to our lives. More fun than functional, this might just lift your weekend!
5. What I’m sharing: Unaccompanied Children Sleep on the Floor in Shifts in Greece’s ‘Model Camps’ – Solomon’s latest investigation shines an important spotlight on the living conditions in Samos, an island where I used to live and work. It is thoroughly disheartening to see just how despicable the Greek and EU’s standards continue to be and the effect this has on those suffering in these camps. Great organisations to support on this issue include: forRefugees, Human Rights Legal Project and Samos Volunteers.
