Friends and family, neighbours and planet-nurturers,
As the days lengthen and the snowdrops display their snowy heads, here’s another eclectic 5 Bullet Friday, your fortnightly selection of social successes, suggestions and citations that I’ve come across or re-discovered in the past weeks.
1. What I’m exploring: BeWell – this delightful new resource produced by Refugee Action is your go-to place for wellbeing thinking and a fascinating report on wellbeing for those of us who work in the migration sector. Their Directory of support services is golden and well worth sharing with your team, staff and friends.
2. Quote that’s made me smile: Tim Jackson, Economist – “We’re persuaded to spend money we don’t have on things we don’t need to make impressions that won’t last on people we don’t care about.“
3. What I’m celebrating: The next stage of GSF Creations – I’m delighted we’ve finally taken our web design agency to the next level, interviewing and bringing on board a team of 3 freelancers with refugee backgrounds from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine. It’s been our aim to create sustainable websites and employment opportunities for people on the move. We’ve got a healthy pipeline of projects, but do get in touch or share us with anyone you know looking for web design work!
4. What I’m taking part in: The Big Plastic Count – Back in 2019, I spent a month or so living zero waste. Though hard and ultimately unsustainable personally, it opened my eyes to just how prevalent the waste problem is. This year, join me in taking part in Greenpeace’s Big Plastic Count – a week-long challenge to self-audit your waste habits! Let me know if you’re taking part too!
5. Tool I’m using: The Website Carbon Calculator – Curious to know what environmental footprint your website has? This is a great tool to analyse your site and calculate its cost on the environment. I’ve found it really useful as we work to make our sites as planet-friendly as possible.
That’s it for this fortnight! As ever, please let me know your thoughts and feedback – and send anything you’d like me to include in upcoming editions this way.
