Good morning friends!
One of the things I love about my 5 Bullet Friday is hearing back from so many of you, picking up on threads and enjoying with you mini email exchanges! They make my inbox so much brighter so thank you to all of you for continuing to nose around in this little fortnightly email! On that note, I will be preparing an additional short email in the coming weeks to gather some feedback on my 5 Bullet Friday as I look forward to how to continue it in 2025. For now, though, I’m delighted to share with you this selection of 5 social tips, tricks, thoughts and talking points, all of which I’ve come across or re-discovered over the past two weeks. Please enjoy!
1. What I’m reading: Solomon’s 2-part investigation into the Pylos Shipwreck – This week, Solomon – my favourite Greek source of quality independent journalism – released its 2-part investigation into the tragic 2023 Pylos Shipwreck in which over 500 people lost their lives. What they uncover is as sad as it is shocking, revealing that Egypt informed the Greek authorities that the nine survivors of the shipwreck were not members of the smuggling network. Yet, the men stayed behind bars for a year.
2. Quote I’m pondering: David Whyte – ‘Poetry is not some abstracted art – it’s how human beings speak when they are trying to create language against which there are no defences.‘ David Whyte, speaking on a recent Tim Ferris podcast available here.
3. What I’m integrating: The 8 Forms of Capital – I have just come out the other end of a transformative 12-week Abundance Fellowship, an in depth programme for social innovators looking to regenerate their relationship with money, economy and (a)livelihoods. I have so many takeaways, but one practical starting point is better recognising and monitoring my sense of wealth and abundance in a more holistic way. This article does a good job of summarising them!
4. What I’m testing: Fundraise Up – I’m always on the lookout for the most engaging donation platforms out there. For the past years, I’ve always recommended Donorbox for their simple set-up, low fees and embeddable widget. But no more! Though I’m still in early-stage testing, I am blown away by the elegance of Fundraise Up (and no, I’m never on commission here!). It feels light years ahead in user-experience design to Donorbox with some really powerful and persuasive features!
5. What I’m preparing for: The Warn Family Christmas Song – A fun bullet to finish on! This year’s song will remain a secret, but as we get closer to Christmas, I’m taking deep breaths before beginning the recording and video-ing for my whacky family’s Christmas song. This will be our 8th consecutive year – that’s 7 times robbed of Christmas #1 – but it has become such a lovely family tradition and one I am deeply grateful for! Watch this space!
