Good morning Fabulous Friday-ers! ✊
I’ve overcome a moment of panic having almost run out of teabags. Luckily, a rogue saviour was hiding in the cupboard, so, ensconced with a warm cuppa, I’m delighted to share with you my selection of 5 social tips, treats and talking points, all of which I’ve come across or re-discovered over the past two weeks. Please enjoy!
1. What I’m sharing: Spain’s Defence of Migration – Spain’s approach to migration is far from perfect. However, it is uplifting to see how Pedro Sanchez stands up to the politicised narratives on migration with clarity and solidarity. In a Europe that seems to have accepted demonisation and externalisation as the modus operandi, here’s a country at least talking about it differently.
2. Quote I’m pondering: Carl Jung – “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will rule your life and you will call it Fate.”
3. What I’m reading: Existential Kink – The above quote is at the heart of Existential Kink, a book that invites you to confront the the dark, shameful and ‘dirty’ that we all have inside us. The result? Coming out the other side a fully realised, kinky human, capable of absolutely anything! (I apparently haven’t come out this side yet, but the concept and core practice outlined in this book make it well worth a read!)
4. How I’m responding: ‘Wow, 6 years vegan, that must be hard’ – The truth is, it’s not. Like mainly habits, once fully integrated, it becomes second nature. I think perhaps those who aren’t vegan imagine each day as being a constant, cosmic struggle with temptation: ‘Oh, do I get that pizza? … Oh, go on, just a couple of wings…’ but once your fridge and mind have transitioned, you don’t deliberate. I skip that step without a single backward bovine look. I am blind to most of the menu when I eat out and I love being able to select (yes, from fewer options – but how many do we really need?) more quickly to get back to enjoying the company of whoever I’m with.
5. What I’ve put together: Rough and ready resources on Impact Management – This is just a mini selection of monitoring and evaluation resources that I’m often asked for and thought I’d open source. A short collection of courses, presentations ideas and toolkits that anyone interested in the topic might want to check out or share on further!
That’s it for this fortnight! As ever, please let me know your thoughts and feedback – and send anything you’d like me to include in upcoming editions this way.
