This 5 Bullet Friday wings its way to you from the cosy interior of a Flixbus to Geneva where I’m off to discuss all things social strategy-related with my Global Solidarity Foundation co-conspirator, Cyril. To get in the mood, I’m delighted to share these 5 social tips, treats and talking points, all of which I’ve come across or re-discovered over the past fortnight. Please enjoy!
1. What I’m listening to: El Pozo Amargo – I’ve been acoustically binging on this track over the past week, featuring the captivating Swedish folk instrument, the Nyckelharpa. Ana Alcaide is the director of the World Music Festival of Toledo, where she is credited for breathing life back into this ancient instrument.
2. What I’m reflecting on: Are you hunting antelope or field mice? – Despite the non-vegan imagery, this short thought has stuck with me over the past fortnight, a helpful metaphor to focus one’s time on what really moves the needle. Have you identified your antelopes?
3. Resource I’m sharing: Pro bono legal advice, research and policy work for charities – Alongside the fabulous TrustLaw, I’ve been made aware of this offer from ReedSmith. Full details in the linked document where I’ve put the relevant contact details. Well worth taking advantage of for any pieces of work you’ve wanted to explore as a charity but haven’t had the time or resources to get round to.
4. What I’m watching: Ruth Chang’s TED Talk on Hard Choices – This is one powerful and mindset-changing talk, which I’ve come across through my current coaching sessions (more on that soon). From the blurb: “Big decisions like these can be agonisingly difficult. But that’s because we think about them the wrong way, says philosopher Ruth Chang. She offers a powerful new framework for shaping who we truly are.”
5. Project I’m inspired by: Project Watermelon – This brilliant initiative exists to connect families in Palestine with resources and aid teams around the world. You can directly help families trying to reach safety, and connect with a global network of donors and activists. I love how clear and effective this initiative is.
